About the

Stella Jones Gallery

Stella Jones Gallery was the culmination of a dream between Stella Jones and her late husband, Harry Sr. After being avid collectors for some time, the couple decided that they wanted to make African American, contemporary African, and Caribbean fine art accessible to all.

In 1996 the Stella Jones Gallery opened their doors on St. Charles Ave. in downtown New Orleans and have been there ever since.

The Stella Jones Gallery is fortunate to have many connections in the art world, including Dr. Samella Lewis, who became an instrumental guide in the process as gallery owners.

About

Stella Jones Gallery

For twenty five years, Stella Jones Gallery has played a pivotal role in highlighting the historical relevance of Black Art.  Stella Jones, a black female owner, considers the gallery a “unicorn in the art gallery market,” showcasing local artists of color alongside masters in a downtown venue.  The gallery has remained committed from the beginning, to educating collectors, museums and the community on the political, social and economic impact of Black Artists and their art work. The gallery has become an important vehicle by which the black perspective is continuously presented.

With a diverse clientele, Stella Jones Gallery has gradually become one of the most respected African American fine art galleries in the country. In 2018, the gallery was one of six businesses to receive a Downtown NOLA award which recognized exceptional accomplishments of downtown businesses and residents. In 2017, the gallery was listed as a Cultural Landmark by The Drum newspaper, Baton Rouge, and declared by Thrillist as one of the four spots that have transformed the Arts District into NOLA’s hottest neighborhood. In 2020 Stella Jones Gallery was honored to be placed on Beyonce’s list of Black Owned Businesses.
