30 Years of Reflection

July 20 - September 20, 2026

Artist Talk (in-person): Saturday, August 1 @ 4pm

30 Years of Reflection For more than three decades, Charly Palmer has created paintings that illuminate the African American experience through stories of family, history, resilience, and everyday life. 30 Years of Reflection brings together recent paintings with selected works from across his career, inviting visitors and collectors to experience the enduring vision of one of contemporary America’s leading visual storytellers.

Rather than tracing a chronological journey, the exhibition reveals the remarkable consistency of Palmer’s practice. Across evolving palettes and compositions, his work remains rooted in memory, spirituality, resilience, and the quiet dignity of ordinary life. His portraits and narratives affirm that everyday moments are as worthy of remembrance as the defining events that shape our collective history.

Often described as a modern griot, Palmer creates paintings that connect generations. His work has been acquired by significant private and institutional collections, while landmark commissions – including TIME magazine’s America Must Change cover, the United States Postal Service Black Heritage stamp honoring Judge Constance Baker Motley, and John Legend’s Grammy Award-winning Bigger Love album cover – have established him as one of the most recognizable visual storytellers in contemporary American art.

Presented during Stella Jones Gallery’s 30th anniversary year, 30 Years of Reflection celebrates an artist whose work continues to shape the cultural conversation while affirming the gallery’s longstanding commitment to artists of the African diaspora.

Visitors are invited to experience the exhibition in person and explore works available for acquisition.
